Introduction
Pikey Dudhakunda Trekking provides a great wilderness adventure. The area is less crowded and not as
commercialized as other trekking areas in the Solukhumbu district. The trip starts with a 6-7 hour
bus/private car trip to Jiri from Kathmandu. The trek follows the traditional route taken by the early
Everest expeditions and is still used today as the main artery to the roadless Everest region. From Jiri we
pass through authentic Sherpa, Jirel, Tamang and Bahun/Chhetri Villages. After crossing the Likhu Khola
we climb steadily through terraced fields and along the trail you will find rhododendron, magnolia and
pine forests. After leaving the Goli village behind us we ascend further to Ngaur to visit a small and
historic monastery. The following day we ascend the summit of Pikey Peak (4040m.) for awesome views
of Gaurishankar, Thamsherkhu, Number Himal, Makalu, Everest and other Himalayan giants. The trek
continues via Thupten Chholing Buddhist Monastery to a series of beautiful secret lakes. Dudh
Kunda (4190m) is a small, milky holy lake surrounded by a perfect landscape that will touch your heart.
This trek has views of the Khumbu range from each and every camp site, including Mt Everest (8848m),
Makalu (8475m) Kanchenjunga (8598m), Cho Oyu (8188m), Lhotse (8414m), Thamserku (6608m),
Numbur (6656m), Khatang (6853m), and Karilung (6511m). The return trail goes through Chiwang and
Phaplu with the flight back to Kathmandu the next day.
